It’s not like I try, like man-try not to change but I just feel like I keep a core group of people around me. And not that it’s just them it has to do with my integrity too, I just try to stay as humble as possible-cuz I could NOT be here next year."

(Video) Snoop Dogg Talks 3D “That Tree” Video
Speaking to MTV for mixtape daily, Snoop shares his fear of 3D movies, talks about Cudi and also explains that the upcoming “That Tree” video will be in 3D.
“We did a cold video for that song,” Snoop told Mixtape Daily. “I like working with Kid Cudi. To me, he’s fun, dynamic, a brand-new style of MC. He gives hip-hop what it’s missing right now, being fun and getting back to what it used to be. Everybody don’t have to frown up and tell a story about going to jail, getting shot, having hard times. It can be fun sometimes. To me, his music represents that. His persona represents that. I hung out with him a few times, and he’s really my nephew. He calls me Uncle Snoop. I’m happy we had a chance to work together.

How was 2009? The release of your first album and touring must have been highlights?
Looking back at 2009 is just really overwhelming for me, the fans have carried me so far and I’m just enlightened by all the love I’ve received thus far. The highlight is traveling and meeting all these beautiful young people who feel how I feel. I speak their language.
You worked at BAPE STORE NEW YORK before. How did that come about and why did you want to work there?
I was always a fan of the brand but it just wasn’t something I could afford back then. I remember working there my first couple of weeks in the same uniform cause I didn’t own anything prior to being hired. So it was a dream come true to be able to work at the store I dreamed of shopping in one day. Over a couple of years I might have applied at the store 3 or 4 times before the last attempt that got me hired. I fell in love with BAPE because of their color selection and artwork. I love the style of their cartoons.
How did you first get to know about BAPE?
I discovered what BAPE was when I moved to NY, the store opened up shortly after I moved from Cleveland.
Did you hear any interesting stories about your time there?
I remember Kanye coming in one time and I was helping him get a couple things. I forgot to take a sensor off of one of the jackets he bought and I had to run out the store to catch him before he left. Pretty funny me chasing after him in SoHo haha.
What do you think of BAPE at the moment?
I think BAPE is taking things to amazing new levels. I love the new designs and artwork. They stay true to classic BAPE style but including new and creative twists here and there. I love what they’ve done lately with my MILO character.
Do you have any styling rules when you dress?
I def stick to what works for me. I like to be comfortable, I have a ridiculous amount of t-shirts, some vintage but mostly BAPE. I wear the same jeans everyday a couple months at a time. I have a uniform haha.
Please tell us your plans for 2010.
I’m working on my new album now, “Cudder and the Revolution of Evolution” which is due out this Summer. I have an HBO show I have a supporting role in called “How To Make It In America” airing now. I want to do a couple movies this Summer and some touring. I like staying busy. Its not work, it’s fun.

Editorial: We Need Nas
We Need Nas.
We Need Nas.
We Need Nas.
There, I said it.
A lot of people want to forget about Nas now, act like he's fallen off. They - behind computers - sit and laugh about his marital issues. They still want to talk about Carmen from time time. He signed under Jay-Z when his former adversary was president of Def Jam, they type. They use terms like "Nas stay losing."
They love to tear him down for some reason.
They do this to others as well, but not quite in the same way as Nasir Jones.
But, we need Nas...you know, if you still love Hip-Hop. I'll admit, Nas isn't the "Jesus-snuffing-Illmatic-Stillmatic" dude that we once knew and revered. His body of work has been somewhat spotty. Frankly, his rocket ship didn't quite make it to Hip-Hop Heaven.
But, we need Nas.
I look at the landscape of O.G. rappers that are still doing it and doing it well. There's Jay-Z, Kanye West, there's Jadakiss, Scarface, Snoop Dogg and others that are still doing work. Lyrically, and I do mean purely lyrically, none of them seem to be as thought provoking and provocative as Nas. And that's not disrespect, because most of them have more flair, business acumen, style and personality than Nas puts on display.
What is dope, as well as frustrating, is his natural tendency to be private. He remains mysterious in an era that seems to abhor enigmas. I love the fact that I don't know what Nas' daughter looks like. Sure, I know Nas has a hefty support bill with Kelis, but I don't quite know if they get along. Nas isn't twittering about it. Hell, we don't even know if he was supposed to be on the original version of "Empire State of Mind" with Jay-Z.
I like that. I like not knowing too much. I like a rapper that pays attention to lyrics. I like a rapper that's not afraid to take a break. Not afraid to be an attention whore. Not afraid to take musical risks.
This leads me to the end of this column.
A few months ago, this collaboration with Damian Marley was the worst thing Nas could ever do, in my humble opinion. First off, I am not the biggest reggae fan, even though I used to do the bogle dance. Glad there was no Youtube back then. But, I have changed my mind on that. This album, titled Distant Relatives, is probably going to "save" Nas' career. After seeing the videos of his performing at SXSW, he's got a renewed energy. He's also got a new cause, a new message and even a team to help him pull this off. This album is more significant than his recent albums.
The main complaint I have with Hip-Hop is the lack of balance in the music. There is no hatred for The South or gangster rap or skinny jeans rappers or whatever else is popular right now. I like it all. And that's all the more reason why we NEED A NAS.
Now, there are other rappers - such as J. Cole, Pac Div, Pill, Juice, Jay Rock - that give hope for that balance we need on a larger scale. There's a lot of hope. But I also hope that we as a community will stop feeding into the desire to deconstruct Nas so much. Let dude be Nas, an amazing lyricist that happens to be the opposite of all that you complain about. Perhaps the hate is some form of displaced love. Maybe we failed to recognize Nas as a human from the onset of his career and really bestowed him with power he never had.
Nas can still make it to Heaven, but we're going to have to help him navigate the ship this time around.
Real talk. We need Nas. -Good Guy AKA Everyman

Diggy Simmons Signs With Atlantic Records
Diggy Simmons Signs With Atlantic Records and talks about his decision with Vibe Magazine
Looks like March is ending on a high note for Diggy Simmons. The teen rapper—who recently gained a strong buzz for his takes on Drake’s debut single “Over” and the Nas classic “Made You Look”—celebrated his 15th birthday on Sunday, but received the real icing on his cake yesterday when he announced his official signing to Atlantic Records.
Although Diggy says he had also received offers from Def Jam, Jive, Universal, and Epic, he shared with VIBE why he feels confident in his label choice.
“[Atlantic is] really hip to my vision and they work the way [artists] want to work by giving them a lot of creative freedom. And their team is amazing; everybody’s real cool and just as excited as me to get started on my project,” he says. “Honestly, I’m just super duper thankful for the opportunity that Atlantic gave me and every other label. I won’t even say that it was overwhelming. It was just surreal.”
Wondering what the details are of Diggy’s new venture? Ask the adults. “Honestly, I’m not even sure [how many albums I’m contracted to], that’s like what my lawyers and pops handle. I’m just making good music until they say stop and even after that I’ll just keep going [laughs].”
But it’s far too early for Diggy to worry about when his contract is up. Instead, Rev Run’s middle son is already thinking about label-mate collabos. “Lupe is my favorite hip-hop artist, so sharing a label is something to be excited about. I think Lykke Li would be a dope collaboration as well because I’ve always been a fan of hers and Trey Songz or Estelle would be really dope as well.”
As for the crass Twitter trending topic #JojoMustFeelLike that showed face the same day as Diggy’s signing, the young rapper stood unamused.
“Number sign Jojo must feel like a proud brother, is all I gotta say. Everything everybody was saying [about him being jealous]… he didn’t even feel that way. The jokes on them, cause they’re stupid. People always like to put a negative play on a positive thing. But he was super excited for me.”

This morning, Asher Roth unveiled a new mixtape and from the looks of the cover, you can see it has somewhat of a culinary theme. However, this should not to be taken lightly as the production was quite serious, featuring a range of artists including Pharrell, Kanye, J-Dilla, Just Blaze, Will.I.Am, Mad Lib, Heatmakers, Timbaland and more.

MTV News: Snoop Dogg Talks “That Tree” Video
In a short interview with MTV, Snoop tells them that the upcoming video for That Tree will be a “Romper Room”-like video based on the old popular kids TV show.
“It’s kind of hard to explain,” Snoop told MTV News about the concept. “It’s like ‘Romper Room.’ It’s kiddish. It’s really fun. Me and him like to have fun, so we wanted the video to depict that. It’s not a real serious video. There’s no champagne room. There’s no money being thrown or a bunch of girls. It’s just me and him having a good time.” - Snoop Dogg
The Jason Goldwatch directed video is set to premiere early April according to Snoop’s Label.

ABSOLUT® VODKA UNVEILS “NY-Z” – A SHORT FILM FEATURING LEGENDARY ARTIST AND NATIVE NEW YORKER JAY-Z
Director Danny Clinch and Hip-Hop Icon Pay Tribute to New York City with Black & White Short Film; Latest Creative Collaboration from World’s Most Iconic Vodka
NEW YORK (March 22, 2010) – Today, as part of an ongoing creative collaboration with JAY-Z and Madison Square Garden (MSG), ABSOLUT® VODKA introduces “NY-Z” – a 14-minute short film featuring JAY-Z and directed by popular music and culture photographer Danny Clinch. Featuring exclusive footage of JAY-Z and John Mayer as they prepare for the September 11 benefit concert at MSG, NY-Z offers a rare glimpse into the life of native New Yorker Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter as he discusses his hometown and what it means for an artist to “arrive” with a performance at the world’s most famous arena. The short film is available for viewing at facebook.com/ABSOLUT.
In September 2009, ABSOLUT and Madison Square Garden announced the ABSOLUT CONCERT SERIES, a sponsorship dedicated to giving music fans the ultimate concert experience through a series of high-profile performances – ranging from rock and roll to country. To kick off the series, JAY-Z put on a one-night-only concert on September 11 with surprise guests, (among them Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, Beyonce and Rihanna), to benefit the New York Fire and Police Widow and Children’s Benefit Fund.
NY-Z paints a rare portrait of the hip-hop icon, with unprecedented access to JAY-Z the days and moments leading up to, and after, his legendary benefit concert. Danny Clinch gives viewers an intimate glimpse into JAY-Z’s childhood, his motivation as an artist, his passion for music, and his muse, New York. The film marks yet another unprecedented collaboration for the spirits brand in a long line of artistic partnerships dating back to the 1980s when ABSOLUT engaged pop culture icons, such as Andy Warhol and Keith Haring.
“NY-Z is a great product of the collaborations behind the ABSOLUT Concert Series,” Danny Clinch, Director of NY-Z said. “As the director, the creative spirits behind ABSOLUT and two iconic NY brands, JAY-Z and MSG, allowed for such a natural and seamless foundation, that the rest was really about celebrating New York through JAY-Z’s eyes and exploring the notion that you have truly ‘arrived’ as a performer when you are playing at the Garden.”
NY-Z was shot by ABSOLUT agency of record TBWA, in black and white in New York. For more information about NY-Z, visit Facebook.com/ABSOLUT.

BBGUN Films’ Reel
This is a throwback video reel that was released in 2008 by the super-talented folks over at BBGUN Films. This reel shows a good amount of (presumably) J.Cole’s ”Lost Ones” and “Lights Please” videos. The video for ”Lights Please” should be dropping sometime this summer because BBGUN included snippets of it in their “2010 Spring Reel”-no promises though. J.Cole clips drop at: .29.33 1.10

As the first artist ever to be signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, young rapper J. Cole is making a huge name for himself. This kid is amazing and we have not seen anything compared to what he is about to bring. Named by Spin magazine as one of the '10 Artists to Watch in 2010' he is also listed by Billboard Faces to Watch as one of '10 Emerging Acts Likely to Make Noise in 2010' and in Billboard's Best Bets issue. Playing at this year's SXSW, J. Cole is a traditional pen-to-paper rapper and has been writing since he was 15. But don't 'get it twisted,' this massive rapping talent also has brains, as he attended St. John's University on an academic scholarship. It wasn't until after his graduation from college that he began to seriously pursue being a rap artist as a lifestyle and career.
Describe your sound in your own words.
Evolution of hip hop with a lot of sensitivity to classic hip hop of the 90s. I pay attention to lyrics and I know what rap fans care about. I try to write for the average listener and I'm conscious of the mainstream without selling out.
How did you form, going from an academic scholarship from St. John's University to hooking up with Jay-Z?
Determination. Its been a whirlwind. I struggled with being a broke college graduate and while all my friends were getting career jobs I was working horrible part-time jobs. That's why now, even when I get tired, I think, "This is what I asked for."
What was your degree in?
Major in Communication and minor in Business.
You are a very good role model for the youth out there, showing its possible and important to get a college education.
I feel like this: Whatever is in your path and in your heart, you need to do. College isn't in everyone's hearts. I am living proof, though, that school doesn't mess up your plans. It gives you more experiences to write about.
What are your musical influences?
The more lyrical rappers. I gravitate toward the classic and more lyrical rappers. Sometimes when I'm in the studio we spend an hour on YouTube watching old rap and freestyle. For a while there it was really lyrical and witty and was always personalized. I'm drawn toward storytellers like Nas and Tupac. I'm realizing my own work in this day is generally not something that is out there. There is a lot of talent, but they just aren't putting out what I am. The whole game is exciting but nobody in a long time has come out with the skills for lyrical writing that I am coming out with.
What's your biggest vice?
Minor vices like, you know, alcohol. I don't smoke. But I like brown liquors. Hennessy.
What's in your SXSW festival survival kit?
A nicely packed bag of clothes to get me through my few days there.
What was your first celebrity crush?
I don't know if it was my first but it was my biggest and most serious crush - Mariah Carey. I was in 4th grade when she came out with 'Dream Lover.' I used to watch that video and pray she had a daughter or little sister for me.
What's your musical guilty pleasure?
I play the intro to the Jason Derulo song 'What You Say'. I think it's so fly even though it's a pop song.
What's the craziest thing you've experienced while on tour performing?
I was opening for a DJ at a South Carolina show. There were 4,000 some people there. It was crazy, they were all drunk and no matter what I said or played they were giving me positive vibes. As soon as the show is over I like to go into the audience and give autographs. So, I went to give autographs and there were all these girls wanting me to sign their chests. I thought that only happened in the movies!
I read you are a traditional pen-to-paper rapper, and also that you have been writing since you were young. What do you do to get motivated to write?
It depends on what mode I'm in. If something comes to me - if my whole week is filled with business, shows, photo shoots and interviews - my creative mode may not be there, but sometimes when I'm in the creative mode say, in the studio, I will do the beat and then write the lyrics. Sometimes, I will come up with ten different beats until I find something I can even write to, but all throughout my weeks I am coming up with lines and jotting them down.
