KiD CuDi Changes The Name Of UpComing Album
In a statement on his blog, The Cudster say he's changing the name of his upcoming mixtape from “Cudder & The Revolution of Evolution” to “Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager”.
"i started making this project like a collab album, filled with fun and upbeat records that for the most part left you with jack shit when you were finished listening. i took a step back, went on tour, and realized im where im at because of the type of songs i write. every time i read a comment from someone saying ive touched their lives in some way is what made me want to stop fucking around and continue pouring my life into my music. MOTM2 is dark by nature and instead of bringing you into my dreams like my first album, im bringing you into my reality. good and bad. it will explain more of who iam aswell as pushing the envelope musically. this project will focus on many dark, fun, and ignorant moments in my life since ive been kid cudi in a exciting and cinematic nature continuing the MOTM theme." - KiD CuDi

Drake Compares Cole To Nas Too Early
Last week when upstart rapper J. Cole stepped onstage at New York’s S.O.B.’s, he was welcomed by a packed house. Among those in the audience were fellow MCs Talib Kweli and Asher Roth.
There were even whispers throughout the crowd that the attendance at the event, Hot 97’s Who’s Next series, surpassed the number of people who came out last May to witness Drake’s coming-out party during his headlining spin at the same showcase.
Although Cole, who was signed to Roc Nation by Jay-Z, and Drake have different styles, lately the two artists have been compared to one another with increasing regularity. Drake himself, in an interview in the February/March issue of Complex magazine, called Cole his favorite rapper right now. He compared the North Carolina native to Nas, while claiming he might be the new Jay-Z.
But Cole, who currently graces the cover of The Source and is one of the featured Freshman 10 in the latest issue of XXL magazine, said it’s too soon to make any lofty comparisons. Drake just released his first single, “Over,” while J. Cole is still working on his debut, the follow-up to his breakout mixtape The Warm Up.
“Comparisons are natural,” Cole told MTV News. “You’re going to compare LeBron to Jordan or [Dwyane] Wade to whoever you compare him to. But in this particular instance, and no disrespect to [Drake's] opinion, because that’s how he feels, but I feel like it’s too early."
“You can’t call things like that, that early,” he continued. “You can’t say I’m Nas because, look, Nas was in the game for 16 years. What if I’m not here next year? What if you’re not here next year? I don’t think you can say stuff like that this early, but I understand what people are saying. At his status right now, he’s the most talked-about guy in the game. The Nas comparison is like, ‘He gets a little bit beyond the surface,’ but I feel like when it comes to those comparisons, it’s way to early. And you never know, 10 years from now, I could be Jay.”
In the meantime, J. Cole, a St. John’s University grad, is basking in the success of selling out S.O.B.’s. When he was an incoming freshman, he attended Kanye West’s breakout performance at the same venue in 2004. Having spent time in the Big Apple and seeing how West’s career played out after that showcase, Cole described what it meant for him to take the same stage.
“This moment is crazy,” he said. “I’m not from New York, but I did spend years here, good years. Four weeks within me moving to New York, I was in this very spot. A month after I got to school, Kanye West had his very same show here and I was a fan. I saw the “Through the Wire” video. I was a real fan at that point, like fanatic almost. … So to watch his show here was legendary. And the reason why this show is so special to me [now] is because around [August last year], they were trying to get me here and I was like … it didn’t feel special yet. So I held off for months and months and months, so now it feels like, for me, one of those moments. And if I was going to do S.O.B.’s, I was going to try and re-create those moments if possible in my own little special way.”

The TSS x Yours Truly Present 3:16 With Pac Div
"And so our first subject in this project is the rhyme trio collectively known as Pac Div. With a quality “mixtape” (Church League Champions was better than quite a few releases with bar codes) under their belt and an energetic, well-choreographed stage performance, the Californians continue to climb the their way to success. For this occasion, Mibbs, BeYoung & Like each take a moment to recite a rhyme that’s etched in their memory banks and then share the reason why the lines or the artist who spoke them had such an impact on each member of the group." - The Smoking Section

Go Go Answer: Get @Wale
It’s quite possible that we all subconsciously know the meaning of life and yet we live it obliviously.
When I say “the meaning of life” essentially I’m talking about what motivates you. I can speak for myself (and maybe a couple hundred thousand that agree), but I sincerely say that I live for love and passion. I love music. I love words. I love positive energy. These are the things that fuel me. These are the things I desire and beg the higher powers for before I lay. This is where I get my peace of mind. Maybe I’m a helpless romantic, or maybe I’m what most people are when their “cool” shell has been penetrated.
I’m starting to see a lot of younger people favor material possessions over things that should matter more. The common battle that most of us are familiar with is job versus love. The irony is that the very thing that could make you head-over-heels for someone (work ethic, drive, business savvy) could be the most detrimental to a relationship.
It’s easier to fall for a Carrie then Miranda, I suppose. It’s easier to fall for a Carrie then Miranda, I suppose. Some people become so consumed with personal goals and aspirations that they can’t find a second to love, let alone allow someone to love them. There is nothing more attractive then a woman with a career… not job, but a career. I’m pretty sure a woman would rather date a man with a 9-to-5 then a guy with no job (other then occupying an older family member’s couch) who shows more interest in his Madden stats then your day. There is absolutely nothing wrong with reaching for the stars in your career, but what if it hinders your opportunity for love?
If it’s true that you only get one true love, are we supposed to jeopardize losing it for material gains? We are here to love and be fruitful. I suppose. But I’m starting to think that may just be old school optimism.
These days it feels like everyone’s going for the money. That’s probably why our generation considers fucking > making love. My question to the ones who put their job over love: What happens once you have all the worldly possessions you desire and never find someone you love whole-heartedly? Or who loves you for more then what you own? Just my thoughts, people, just my thoughts… - Wale

Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives [Trailer]
The official trailer for Nas & Damian Marley's Distant Relatives album which drops May 18th!
MTV Reviews S.O.B’S Showcase & Interviews J.Cole
In the old Roc-A-Fella days, Tuesday night would have been J. Cole’s “Chaining Day,” where the upstart rapper would have received a diamond necklace and pendant emblazoned with the logo from the record company Jay-Z, Dame Dash and Kareem “Biggs” Burke founded.
Instead, Cole, the first artist signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, did without the ceremonial theatrics and delivered a crowd-pleasing display of lyricism at his first headlining show in New York.
The St. John’s University grad performed as a part of Hot 97’s Who’s Next Live at S.O.B.’s — last April, Drake headlined the same concert series.
“Jay told me, ‘It’s your first sold-out show in New York, so take a second after the first song,’ ” Cole told the crowd after breezing through a medley of “Dollar and a Dream II” and “World Is Empty.” “And step back and share it with y’all. So that’s what I’m doing.”
The North Carolina native then spent the next hour running through a number of tracks from his standout mixtape The Warm Up and various guest appearances he’s made in the past months with Wale, Talib Kweli and Young Chris.
“I’m definitely in a class of my own, at dinner with Hov/ Hoping that he pass the baton, he just pass the Patrón,” J. Cole rapped to Wale’s “Beautiful Bliss.” “Ain’t nothing given, dog, it’s earned/ If you just living, dog, you’ll learn/ I let you n—as see the light, I’m like the prison yard, I yearn/ For that living large, but mama I ain’t done yet/ Sit back and watch your sun rise and know that your son’s set, forever.”
Kweli joined him onstage, as the two traded verses over the Brooklyn rapper’s “Get By.” The veteran MC called Cole “the future of hip-hop” before they jumped into their collaboration on Reflection Eternal’s “Just Begun.”
Young Chris also made an appearance — he and Cole took turns paying homage to the Roc, both the gold old days and the present, on “Still the Hottest.”
During the show, Cole shouted out Kanye West, who, like the Roc Nation MC, raps and produces and who also had a well-received breakout show at S.O.B.’s back in 2004.
“I was standing right where you were,” he said, as an 18-year-old college freshman. “So I appreciate you coming out in this weather.”
Fellow XXL magazine 2010 “Freshman 10″ rappers Nipsey Hussle and Pill were also present.
Outasight, XV and Jaeo Draftpick also performed as a part of the showcase.
